An experienced eye doctor not only monitors your vision changes over the years but also provides full support in checking for early signs of illnesses or injuries that could damage your eyes. As you notice your vision changing with age, you might be asking the same question as many other patients: is it possible to reverse vision loss?

The truth is that many types of vision loss are permanent. Once the eye has been damaged, then treatment options are limited to restore vision. But some types of vision loss could be improved naturally, and you can also take a proactive approach in protecting your eyes to prevent vision loss in the future.

A proactive approach in caring for your eyes is the most effective solution to minimize damage to your eyes later on. Here are a few natural options you might consider if you are looking for ways to care for the health of your eyes.

Certain vitamins and minerals can play a role in preventing eye diseases, such as macular degeneration. When you are enjoying a healthy diet each day, it means that you are supplying your body with critical nutrients that protect your health on a cellular level. The eyes need vitamins C, A, and E. Other essential nutrients include zeaxanthin, lutein, and zinc. The folic acid in cucumbers also helps to stimulate antioxidant activity.

Although there are claims that eye exercises can improve vision, there are no studies that prove them to be helpful in improving eye conditions. These exercises may not help with conditions like myopia, hyperopia or astigmatisms, but they can help with eye strain.

This condition can cause significant eye strain, dry eyes, blurred vision, headaches, issues with focusing at distances, and other physical discomforts. Incorporating eye exercises into your daily routine can help to alleviate some of these symptoms. Eye exercises are easy to do, take very little time, and can be done from your desk if needed. Some easy ones are:. Hold a small object such as a pen or your finger in front of your face, then slowly move it away while retaining focus.

Using your eyes, draw out the alphabet from A to Z. Move your eyes to look up without moving your head and then do the same looking down. Repeat a few times and then move your eyes in a slow circle going clockwise, followed by a slow circle going counterclockwise. This is good for range of motion and circulation. Following the Rule can also prove helpful.

For every 20 minutes you spend focusing on a book or screen, take a break to focus on something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This gives your eyes a nice break in between periods of focusing on your computer or book and doing your eye exercises. So let us find out more. There is a big community on the web believing eye training works and promoting it.

In the video below you can find a video basically telling you should hold something, you want to read in a distance where it is slightly blurry and your eyes should relax the muscles to increase the distance in which they can see clearly.

The comments below the video are very positive. The man in the video is Todd Becker and he was prescribed a prescription too strong for him decades ago and reversed myopia by lowering the prescription and giving his eyes the chance to relax. I have no doubt this method worked perfectly in his case. Because when the lenses are too strong muscle spasms can be the result of the muscles influencing the shape of the eye lens.

It makes sense to reduce the prescription and he even recommends going the other route and read with plus lenses which also makes sense and lets the eye muscles relax. There is a lot of truth in the things he says and in the case of a prescription that is too strong, this is the way to go to improve vision naturally. There is also a lot of information in his talk that is used in myopia care today.

Those are essential guidelines to slow down the progression of myopia mostly in children. While the optometrist or the ophthalmologist does this in a very controlled way which supports the way how both eyes play together here in the video it is recommended to simply path one eye.

When this advice comes from a person that is not your eye doctor I can only speak against it. Patching one eye depending on the age of the person can influence binocular vision.
