Since I use a scope on it anyway, it's not a big deal, but you'll see a lot of people complain about FSB canting. And the BCG was not staked, at all. Fortunately, the shop I bought it from has an armorer on staff, so he staked it for me. I don't think they have ever been top shelf but since being bought out, the quality issues have been really coming out of the woodwork.
If you're spending your hard earned money, you're better off going to Spike's or just saving and spending the money on something of better quality. Is this true? If so, I think I'd steer away from them based on some of the information in this thread. I've had a DPMS for about 2. Probably has 2K rnds thru it. At yds, it's as accurate as any of my other rifles. Never a ftf or fte Jamie I don't think the issue is a fundemental flaw in their design but rather the variability in quality control with these rifles, built correctly they run fine.
For instance, it would appear that your BCG has been staked correctly where as mine came apart in the middle of a CMP competition after apx rounds of my personal use. The extractor spring failed after about rounds the rifle was not brand new, I purchased it lightly used. Doesn't mean the underlying firearm is junk, however it does show significant variability and that's problematic.
I have no doubt, now that my DPMS has been sorted out, that I could fire many thousands of rounds through it without difficulty Accuracy has never been an issue with my DPMS rifle. When I do my part, I am in the X ring at yards with irons. Unfortunately, my variability is worse than the DPMS. It still a DPMS. Ive never seen an unshrouded M16 Carrier. I dont understand the Patrol Rifle Question Mark comment.
With a Sound Suppressor attached it can be bad for the Sound Suppressor. Also the Oracle has M4 feedramps, and a normal hammer no notch. Chad, Notched Hammers eat up the bottom carriers and can lead to short stroking due to increased friction.
Didn't know that!!! For some reason my mind read M16 carrier when you wrote AR15, Duh, my bad. I totally agreed with you, this test is too cheap not to do. Agreed, I just didn't say it well. Any defensive AR should have a chrome barrel, I will go one step further I think Noveske got this one right with the double thick chrome lining on their barrels like the M How so?
From what I understand about the new law. After reading this thread, Mark and Chad pretty well have it in the bag, well almost. If one is going to shoot 62 and heavier almost exclusively, go with the twist. Namely a lot of stove pipes. You get what you pay for..
My Grandfather gave me these words of wisdom to live by: You can have anything two of the three options. Fast 2. Cheap 3. Good You need to decide which two are most important. Nice to know a 2 year old thread gets randomly updated and people still have the same opinions of DPMS. The Remington R on the other hand, is supposedly made by Bushmaster. The BCG was a little sloppy and the annoying incorrect height front gas block drove me crazy before I realized that it wasn't "F" marked.
Quoted: I'm just getting a lower. Quoted: Well here is a guy who does shoot, and does own ARs, saying they are crap. I've got a DPMS 16" 1x7 chrome line 5. Quoted: Read it again. Oh im sorry let me fix it Quoted: Yes, because 2 rifles are such a good sample size, it must be representative of all DPMS rifles. Quoted: DPMS is of less than stellar quality. Yep, total unadulterated crap-ola Just look what that Pizza-Shi'ite. They'll outshoot an Armalite anyway, and for half the price.
Less than stellar quality, my i ETA: Do'h! Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Something doesn't seem right to me: It's almost universally accepted that their rifles are great, but the opinion on their rifles varies. How can this be? Much of the tooling would be shared, finishing techniques would likely be the same, hiring practices for workers within the company are assumed to be uniform, QC procedures shouldn't vary, the design isn't radically different I didn't know that.
From the Ammo Oracle on AR I shoot mostly Wolf ammo, so am I just lucky, or what? My bolt and lower are both DPMS. The rifle has never choked.
No Problems. Quoted: Junk. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, would you mind clarifying our thinking with what yours is based on? I run a DPMS 7. I like it. A shooter's opinion, not a keyboard commando's. My only experience was with a lower that I mated with a varmint stainless RRA upper. Less than impressed due to it's FTF issues. Maybe a fluke, or maybe a slight specs difference. A lot of people might think it's unfair to compare a Colt to a Yugo.
I rate it so-so. I bought a DPMS complete lower from a local gun store. Last one in the store kind of thing. Took it home and the front pivot pin was over sized and would be a pain to install into an upper. Didnt have a replacement handy so I just took it out and ground it back into shape with a file to fit in my uppers. I had an upper that was shipped from the factory, I ordered a lightweight 16, I got delivered a HB I call em up and say WTF?
I had to suck it up and keep is since I was low on guns. I might have to try one of the. ETA: gooder English. I have a little experience with DPMS parts.
I have a stripped lower. It I had no issues putting it together. I built it last night so I haven't shot it yet. I had a lightweight barrel and bolt. I ran about round through them before I decided to go to a chrome lined barrel. I never hand any issue with those either. I also have a dust cover and foreward assist. The fit and finish is as good as Bushmaster.
Quoted: Quoted: Junk. Parts I personally bought seem to be made of pot metal and broke safties. It wasn't the mags or ammo. Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Junk. Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Junk. Like them or not, I've had zero issues to date with both factory rifles and a complete upper.
This is my newest "fun" rifle that I'm almost finished with. It shoots more accurately than I can. I would sure buy another.
In fact I want to get the 7. Fit and finish is a poor indication of quality. However, if it is what you want, buy an Armalite--they seem to have the most consistently good fit and finish that I have seen although I do not like some other aspects about them. Fit and finish is just one of those things that has a minor influence on my purchase.
Reliability and reasonable accuracy top the list, but I also like some of mine to look really nice. The three of these combined with price influence my decisions. Of course I hear you can build it yourself at a considerable savings. Quoted: Quoted: Read it again. You're still not following me. The stories I have already told are about 2 POSs. I have more stories about more POSs I have seen or shot. I have examined many more of their products and know anecdotal evidence from mulitiple other sources that are reliable.
Quoted: A lot of people might think it's unfair to compare a Colt to a Yugo. He is not comparing the Colt to the Yugo. I replaced the hammer with a DMPS milspec, and it's back to being reliable. I have no issues with buying or recommending DMPS at all. Or Bushmaster. Love em both! A DPMS.
